The Italian Trail: a journey of flavors at Mota in Livigno
Autumn brings major Trail Running events that celebrate not only the sport but also the wine-growing regions they traverse. This colorful, flavorful season is also the perfect time to discover the most intriguing wine labels of the moment.
At Mota in Livigno, we decided to host The Italian Trail, a journey to explore the best Italian artisan wines alongside an esteemed producer, Matteo Capacchione.
What are Artisan Wines?
At Mota, we are passionate about wine—especially artisan wines, which we carefully incorporate into our wine cellar selection. Artisan wines are crafted with minimal, sustainable methods in both vineyards and wineries. This includes using pesticide-free grapes and winemaking processes that avoid additives or invasive techniques, resulting in wines that authentically express the territory, climate, and grape varieties.
According to Raffaele Rodigari, wine lover and sommelier at Mota:
Artisan wines are an authentic expression of the winemaker’s tradition and the territory they originate from. Often crafted by small artisans, they emphasize quality over quantity. These wines are produced using traditional methods such as handpicking grapes, fermenting with indigenous yeasts, and aging in wooden barrels or other containers according to the winery’s philosophy.
One distinctive aspect of artisan wines is the deep connection between the winemaker and the terroir, which reflects the geographical, climatic, and soil characteristics of the region. This ensures each craft wine has a unique personality, influenced by grape varieties, winemaking methods, and the artisan's passion.
As wine enthusiasts, we value them for their authenticity, the stories they tell, and the connection they foster with their region of origin and the people who create them.
For this reason, we have decided to host a series of evenings dedicated to high-quality food and wine – a world full of stories waiting to be told.
